How assistance works
You tell us about a veteran and the problem in front of them. A person reads every nomination, and every nominator hears back.
Who can nominate
Anyone can nominate a veteran: a family member, friend, neighbor, fellow veteran, community member, or the veteran themselves.
Who is eligible
Veterans from every era and branch may be considered. A service-connected disability and an income limit are not required. Surviving spouses and families of deceased veterans are also eligible.
Discharge status, repeat assistance, and needs outside our usual scope are reviewed case by case.
What we help with
We focus on everyday necessities that have become unaffordable and where practical help can make an immediate difference.
Typical need: $500 to $25,000
Needs below or above that range are still read and considered.
- Vehicle repair and transportation
- Wheelchairs and mobility equipment
- Accessibility modifications
- Wheelchair ramps and home access
- Essential home repairs such as a furnace, roof, or plumbing
- Other critical everyday needs considered case by case
What happens after you nominate
- 01
Our board reviews it
Our three-member board reviews nominations as they arrive. We cannot help every veteran, but every nomination is read by a person.
- 02
We talk and verify
We ask for a DD-214, valid ID, and phone number, and have at least one phone conversation. A background check may be part of verification, and a criminal record may disqualify a nominee.
- 03
We pay the provider
If assistance is approved, we pay the contractor, vendor, or provider that solves the problem. We never give cash directly to the veteran.
If we can’t help
We’ll let the nominator know. We will not leave you wondering. When possible, we’ll point you toward other veteran resources that may be able to help.
